Our History
The WeWhale Association was created as a natural extension of WeWhale, with the aim of strengthening its commitment to cetacean conservation through science, education and direct action. What began as an effort to transform whale watching into a more respectful and low-impact activity soon revealed a broader need: to better understand and actively protect the animals encountered at sea.
Built on the same values of responsibility and respect for marine life, the association develops research, monitoring and awareness initiatives focused on cetaceans and their environment.
It also seeks to foster a deeper connection between people and the ocean, encouraging more conscious and responsible encounters and a better understanding of its inhabitants.
Our Manifesto
- Respect for marine life
We promote respectful navigation practices and encourage coexistence between human activities and marine wildlife. - Education and awareness
We believe that understanding leads to protection. Through our work, we aim to foster a deeper awareness of marine ecosystems and the species that inhabit them. - Science for conservation
We collect and contribute data to improve knowledge of cetaceans and their environment, supporting research and long-term conservation efforts. - Non-invasive approach
We prioritise observation and research methods that minimise disturbance, avoiding any action that could cause stress or impact animals in any way. - Against captivity
We stand firmly against the captivity of cetaceans and support their protection in the wild, where they belong. - Against whaling
We oppose all forms of whaling and advocate for the global protection of whales and dolphins. - Active protection
We act when necessary. If we witness activities that may harm marine life, we document and report them to the relevant authorities. - Collaboration
We work together with scientists, organisations and local communities to strengthen conservation efforts and share knowledge.
- Respect for marine life
