Responsible Whale Watching
Promoting sustainable and educational practices
The WeWhale Association was founded to expand the conservation and educational impact of WeWhale: a project born from the belief that whale watching can and should play an active role in marine conservation.
We transform every trip at sea into an opportunity to protect, study and better understand the marine world. Our experiences are designed to create a meaningful connection between people and the ocean through science, education and respectful navigation.
Every booking directly supports conservation efforts: part of the income generated through whale watching experiences helps fund the projects and activities of the WeWhale Association, including scientific research, environmental education and marine conservation initiatives aimed at protecting cetaceans and their habitat.
Respectful navigation
Respect for cetaceans and their habitat is at the heart of everything we do. We never chase animals or interfere with essential behaviours such as feeding, resting or caring for calves. Instead, we prioritise calm and ethical encounters guided by patience, observation and admiration. Our goal is not only to see wildlife, but to coexist with it responsibly.
Reduction of CO₂ emissions and noise
WeWhale operate with a fleet of fully electric and hybrid vessels, specially adapted to minimise their environmental impact. By reducing underwater noise and CO₂ emissions, we aim to offer a quieter and less intrusive presence around marine wildlife, allowing encounters to happen in a more natural and respectful way. Silence at sea becomes part of the experience and a way to truly appreciate whales and dolphins without disturbing their behaviour.
Conservation & Research
Every outing also contributes directly to conservation and research efforts. During the trips, scientific data is collected on cetacean presence, behaviour and distribution, supporting long-term monitoring projects in different regions of Spain. We also document marine litter and environmental conditions, while actively removing floating debris whenever possible.
Education and Awareness
On board, our biologist and naturalist guides help participants interpret cetacean behaviour in real time, understand the ecological importance of the species we encounter and reflect on the growing challenges facing the ocean. Through the use of hydrophones, guests can even listen live to the underwater sounds and vocalisations of dolphins, creating a deeper connection with them.
